Where the Germans go!

After our little trip to Marathon, we continued onward to the Monastery of Ossios Loucas. This place was gorgeous. The fresh mountain air didn't hurt either. While we didn't get to talk to anyone who lived there (which was a good thing, because if the monks were there that meant we couldn't be), it was still another humbling experience.

The monastery is right on the slopes of Mount Helikon, near a town called Distomo in Boeotia, Greece. It is the largest of the three monasteries that have survived from the Middle Byzantine period in Greece, and is very well-known for its mosaics.

Let's take a tour!

Pretty pretty mosaics

I swear I saw more German signs than English or Greek ones
Like I said, I thought this place was absolutely breathtaking, so I included more pictures than usual.

After the monastery we stopped for a quick lunch that Roula couldn't stop raving about all along the bus ride there. She kept telling us which things were the best to try (of which there were many), so I, along with many others, opted to just get the mixed plate to try them all.

It was a VERY good choice
More German! It was like a home away from home
